But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8

Whatever you’re busy with today, stop and think about this: your life was worth God’s heartbreak.

Your baby won’t live six months,” doctors told Erik and Sonja. A rare genetic disease would likely take their unborn baby’s life shortly after birth. Their devastation couldn’t even be put into words! Friends and family assumed that they would abort the pregnancy or emotionally distance themselves. They expected them to cancel the baby shower and stop decorating the nursery. But that new mother and father decided to celebrate their baby’s life all the more, if they had to squeeze all their joy and love into just a few months. Sonja lovingly knit dozens of outfits. Erik carved a crib. They gave him as many kisses and snuggles as his short life could hold. And when he died five months later, they mourned deeply a life they would always cherish and never forget.

Love this bold and fearless, even in the face of loss, is like God’s love. God knew something of how these parents felt because He knew His only Son would die before He was ever born. The Bible says that “…God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:8). God knew that we would reject and kill Jesus. He knew that loving us was going to be a long road with much heartbreak. But God looked at me—He looked at you and said, “They’re worth all my love and even worth giving up Jesus’s life because He knew the end of the story!”

God has compassion for your heartbreak. His love has written a new ending to your story and He offers His love today to all who will have it!
