To all who believed [Jesus] and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. John 1:12-13

Whether you’re 8,18 or 80, you need a sense of this in your life.

Everyone craves belonging. Speaking of her own children, a therapist put it this way: “There is no greater gift than feeling a deep connection and place in relationships. I want my kids to know their true, authentic selves belong with me and in our family—delighted in, seen, heard, and wanted.”[1]

Our need to belong doesn’t stop when we grow up. Consciously or unconsciously, we keep longing for deep belonging with those who know us best. This longing is rooted in our design because God created us to be part of His family. In the first chapter of the Bible God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us” (Genesis 1:26). Out of this overflowing love, God made you.

Your greatest sense of complete belonging is found in the family of God as His beloved, wanted child. Scripture declares, “To all who believed [Jesus] and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God” (John 1:12-13).

Belonging in God’s family means you are seen, known, and delighted in. It means inclusion in God’s purposes and dreams—a unique place only you can fill. You are wanted. You matter.

Whether you’re considering responding to God’s invitation for the first time or reminding yourself today that you belong, let this truth sink in. You are invited to be part of a family where you are seen, known, and deeply wanted for exactly who you are. God made you and wants you in the family.
